The second preliminary leg of The Classic Series (TCS) will be raced on Saturday night at Mohawk Racetrack. Normally a four-race event, the Series is reduced to two, the Trotting Classic and Classic Oaks, as both the Pacing Classic and Classic Distaff fell short of the number of entries required to card the race. Those horses entered in the two pacing divisions will be awarded one series point and credit for a start toward the final.
The good news is that the two trotting races promise to be exciting and interesting events.
Eleven horses were entered in each and the quality is top notch.
The $85,000 Trotting Classic will go as race eight on the card and features recent millionaire Corleone Kosmos, winner of the Cutler in his first seasonal start. Last year’s 3-year-old Breeders Crown champ, Arch Madness, and top dash-winning trotter, Before He Cheats, make their TCS debuts.
The $85,000 Classic Oaks (race 10) promises to be a pari-mutuel puzzler with a very competitive field. Snazzy Millie was second in leg one of TCS and has drawn the inside here. Trond Smedshammer sends a pretty pair in Godiva Hall and Falls For You to post.
First post at Mohawk is 7:30 and there are three divisions of sophomore pacers competing in the Burlington stakes to hold your interest until TCS races. (TCS)
