Brunton Tilly, a half brother to world champion Victory Tilly, used a final quarter of :26.4 to rally from fifth at the three quarters to win a $31,000 conditioned trot at the Meadowlands Friday night in 1:53.3. It was the first North American start for the 9-year-old gelding who shipped overseas from Europe with more than $400,000 in career earnings.

Ron Pierce was in the sulky as Brunton Tilly sat last in the six-horse field through most of the way, tipping to the outside at the half and then moving three wide in the final turn before rally past the field to win by more than three lengths. Richard Norman trains for owner Stall Kompos of Sweden.

Brunton Tilly had been entered to start March 9 at the Meadowlands but his debut was delayed when he was scratched by the Meadowlands' judges when it was determined he needed a North American race line in order to compete. Instead he worked out for the judges, trotting a mile in 1:58.1. Prior to coming to the United States Brunton Tilly had two wins and a second in four starts in Sweden.

Also on the Friday card were three $16,000 divisions of the Matt's Scooter Series. Panedict Arnold won the first split by a head over Major Suit in 1:52.4 for driver George Brennan and trainer Brian Magie. Art At Heart captured the second division with a 1:52 effort. Driver Andy Miller sat second with Art At Heart before charging home in :26.4 to post the victory. Buzzy Sholty is the trainer. The final split went to Dragon Master and Daniel Dube by a neck over Springlake Artist in 1:53.4. Ron Coyne is the trainer.
