Indiana Downs hosted a quartet of sires stakes for two-year-old trotters Wednesday, September 2. ABC Photo and Bluebird Caviar claimed the $25,000 divisions for colts and geldings, while Hoosier Cheetah and Msnaughtybynature collected victories in the two $25,000 splits for fillies.
ABC Photo and driver Dan Shetler made it look easy in the first race on the program, using a wire-to-wire performance to take the top spot in 2:00. The heavy favorite won by a five-length margin for trainer Bobby Brower. Lucky Hoosier and Trace Tetrick finished second, followed by Super Beat and Peter Wrenn. The ABC Garland gelding, out of S J’s Photo mare SJ’s Valentine, has won six of seven starts for DM Stables LLC of Naples, Fla. The two-year-old has earned $63,200.
Bluebird Caviar and Ricky Macomber upset favored Earl’s Glider to win the second colt trotter division by half a length, stopping the clock in 2:00. Solvent and Jay Cross raced third. The Above The Bar gelding broke his maiden, coming in his fifth career start, with the win for conditioner Ron Burke. The freshman is owned by Burke Racing Stable LLC, Frank Baldachino, Weaver Bruscemi LLC and JJK Stables LLC.
Hoosier Cheetah, driven by Rick Farrington, held off a late challenge by Hoosier Jodi and Andy Shetler to win the $25,000 first division for trotting fillies Wednesday. The favorite held on by a head in a time of 2:01.2; Beedlbmb Bluegrass and Mark O’Mara raced third. Trained by Steve Waller for owner Jerry Cunningham, Hoosier Cheetah earned her second career victory. The Butler Hall filly has earned nearly $30,000 in seven starts this season.
In the finale, Msnaughtybynature and Wrenn overtook favorite Call Me Ching and Dan Shetler at the top of the lane and trotted home in :29.2 to win her division in 1:59.3. Call Me Ching finished a length and a quarter back in second while Sipn Lucid and Walter Haynes Jr. were third. Wrenn trains the Scramble Ranger filly and co-owns with The Kales Company LLC. The time was one-fifth off her career best. Four times a winner this season, the filly has earned $50,150.
