Battleshoe Victor ($3.60) was finally victorious after 12 starts this year with an impressive three-length score in 1:56.2 at Pompano Park Wednesday in the $10,000 winners-over trot. Driven by Wally Hennessey, Battleshoe Victor was not to be denied from the start of the feature race as Hennessey sent the 6-year-old gelded son of Valley Victory right to the lead from the rail and held off early challenges by both Guy Gets Girl (Bruce Ranger) and Indian Hill Rocket (Kevin Wallis) before putting both of them away by the opening quarter mile in :27.2. Hennessey and Battleshoe Victor then led the field to the half mile mark in a leisurely :58.1 with Guy Gets Girl sitting in second place as Classical Man (Daryl Bier) came up first-over to challenge and press Battleshoe Victor to the three-quarter mile mark in 1:26.3. But as the field headed down the stretch, Battleshoe Victor held the field at bay for the easy victory. Guy Gets Girl was second with Classical Man third. Trained by Tom Harmer and owned by Michael Polansky of Loudonville, N.Y., it was the 20th career victory for Battleshoe Victor. The victory was one of three on the night for driver Hennessey. Ranger also had three winners. (Pompano Park)
