Trotting co-features held at Scioto

Return Home
August 30, 2012 | Print View

Trotters were spotlighted at Scioto Downs on Thursday night in a pair of $6,500 co-features. They were taken by Roln Master in 1:58.2 and Reverand Speed in 1:58.3.

Roln Master scored by a neck for driver Greg Grismore with a come-from-behind victory after the lead had changed hands several times. Willie Bay was away from the gate fastest, but Ticket To Broadway had the lead at the first quarter. Then Makin Green Lavec moved with authority to the front for trainer-driver Don Pfister.

Grismore didn't let Pfister open up too much daylight as Roln Master went after the leader. Makin Green Lavec tired in the homestretch, allowing Roln Master to get up for the narrow win. Makin Green Lavec prevailed in a tight photo over Captain Jesse and favored Countmymuscles to get second.

Roln Master paid $32.40 for trainer Don Rine, who co-owns the 3-year-old gelded winner with Thomas Rine.

Reverand Speed was also an upset winner for Tom Davis, driving for trainer Ray Paver. He paid $20.40 in defeating Fortune Sailor and Heavenly Chip. He also came from off the pace to win and his margin was 1-3/4 lengths. He is a son of Revenue S.

EZ Go Lavec blazed the opening quarter in :28.2, then yielded to Smoken Homer at the half-mile marker. Smoken Homer continued to lead into the final quarter, but Reverand Speed was trotting fastest of all around the turn and grabbed the lead entering the stretch. Fortune Sailor came from well back to snag second while Heavenly Chip rallied for third.

Reverand Speed is owned by Betty and Richard Gubanish of Pennsylvania in partnership with trainer Paver.  (Scioto)
