Trotting colts at Big M

The 3-year-old trotting colts Make You Mine and Ira K won New Jersey Sire Stakes divisions at the Meadowlands Thursday night with miles of 1:56 and 1:56.4, respectively.

Make You Mine, a Self Possessed sired colt who earned $206,720 as a 2 year old while winning six of 14 starts, scored for Mike Lachance and trainer Ron Gurfein, who have teamed up for three Hambletonian victories.

Driver Yannick Gingras stole the second split with Ira K, who was allowed to waltz to the half in :59 while last year’s Peter Haughton Memorial winner Keystone Savage trotted in the two hole. Brian Sears, driving Keystone Savage, sat tight at the pylons, hoping for daylight in the lane, but it never materialized until it was too late for his colt to get in gear. Tasty Max was second while Keystone Savage settled for third.

Ira K, a son of Yankee Glide, won an elimination for the Dexter Cup earlier this year and now has three wins in five starts.
