Trotting fillies were in the Scioto Downs’ spotlight on Wednesday night as the Ohio State Fair stakes began a four-night stand at the five-eighths mile oval, beginning with the Chip Chip Hooray juvenile filly Mocha Jo winning by a stunning 10 1/4 lengths in her $23,800 division of the Ohio Fairs trot. She hit the wire in 1:59.2 for trainer-driver Sam “Chip” Noble and owner Patricia Davis of Cedarville. Another Chip Chip Hooray filly, Get Chipped, won for Russell Swart in 2:01.4, holding on to win her $23,800 split of the Ohio Fairs trot by one-half length after setting all the fractions. She is owned by Acadia Farms and Pat Holden.
Rose Run Flashy defeated Rose Run Keepsake to win a $23,100 division of the Ohio Fairs trot for freshman fillies. She scored in 2:02.3 for driver David Myers and owner Charles Lee of Plain City. She is a daughter of Trainforthefuture.
Favored Norma’s Rose (Master Lavec) took the fastest of three $22,600 divisions of the Pride of Ohio Trot for 3-year-old fillies. She clocked a 1:57.4 mile for driver Aaron Merriman and owner Jack Tramonte.
She’s Not Red (Emile Angus) was an easy 1:58.2 winner for Sam “Chip” Noble in another division of sophomore fillies. She won by 5 3/4 lengths for owners R.E. Anderson, W. Jeff Johnson, and Scott Mogan.
Brit Van (Pegasus Spur) shot to the front from post eight and held on to win her division of the Pride of Ohio trot by a neck in 1:59.2. Kyle Ater drove for Robert Van Ostrand and Todd Liebman, both from New York.
