Winter-book Hambletonian favorite and defending divisional champion trotter Donato Hanover made his sophomore debut a winning one as he won a qualifier Thursday morning at the Meadowlands in 1:54.3. With Ron Pierce driving for trainer Steve Elliott, the son of Andover Hall left from post seven and then sat third early before moving to the lead at the :56.3 half, closing out the mile with a last quarter in :28 flat. Hambo-eligible Quite Easy finished 2 ¾ lengths behind in second. The 2006 Two-Year-Old Filly Trotter of the Year Pampered Princess also won a qualifier Thursday for driver John Campbell and trainer Jimmy Takter in 1:56.1. The daughter of Andover Hall trotted a final quarter of :27.4 to seal the gate-to-wire, two-length victory.
