True North in Cleveland

George Leon’s True North Hanover won the $178,000 Rolling Rock Cleveland Classic for 3-year-old pacing colts in gate-to-wire fashion Saturday night, jogging home by open lengths in 1:53.1 over a Northfield Park oval rated good after a day of rain.

Dave Palone drove True North Hanover, a son of The Panderosa, to the victory. The previous week Palone had chosen to drive True North's stablemate, Sandro Hanover, in the final heat of the Adios. This week he stuck with True North and was the winner. Sandro Hanover finished third in the Cleveland Classic off of a second-over trip. Last week he failed to fire off of a second-over trip in the Adios final.

Palone rushed True North Hanover, the 3-5 favorite, to the front of the inside post position and posted a casual opening half of :57. He easily won the race by 6-¾ lengths over Winbak Dimensions, who was parked on the outside through the entire mile.

The win was True North Hanover's eighth in 14 starts this year and the $89,000 winner’s share of the purse pushed his career earnings to $282,486.
