Tug River Princess shows some TLC at Big M

Tug River Princess, with John Campbell in the sulky, kept her perfect record in tact as she won the $62,200 Tender Loving Care final Friday night at the Meadowlands.
 
Campbell sent the 1-5 favorite right to the front but was forced to yield to 12-1 shot Erma La Em, who rocketed by midway down the backstretch. Campbell tipped Tug River Princess out of the pocket at the head of the stretch and she drew off to a 4 3/4-length win in 1:52.4.
 
“He (Ron Pierce) was coming so hard, it would have been almost impossible to keep him out,” Campbell said. “I just had to take a chance that I would get out later, but with the speed we were going, I thought that we’d get some clearance somewhere in the stretch.
 
“She’s very professional for the few starts that she’s had,” he added. “She’s a very easy filly to drive. She’s got a good motor and a great attitude."
 
Tug River Princess is undefeated in eight career starts and three-for-three this season. Ross Croghan trains the daughter of Badlands Hanover. New owners Let It Ride Stables and Robert Cooper Stables purchased her from breeder Michael Tait in a private transaction on Feb. 15. (Meadowlands)
