Tweedle Dum wins sixth straight at Pompano

Tweedle Dum proved once again that he is the undisputed top trotter in Florida on Monday, extending his winning streak to six while capturing the featured $14,000 Open Handicap Trot at Pompano Park in 1:54.3.

Driven from post six by regular pilot Walter Ross Jr., Tweedle Dum outfought an aggressively handled Railee Possible (Bruce Ranger) to take his customary position on the front end of the Monday feature, trotting confidently on the lead through fractions of :27.1, :57, and 1:26.

The son of Star Challenge entered the stretch with a 1 1/2-length advantage, and while the stakes-winning gelding Gale Warning (Wally Hennessey) presented a minor challenge when closing late down the lane, the result was never truly in peril as Tweedle Dum crossed the wire a half-length the best.

Tweedle Dum returned $3.00 and $2.10 for the victory, while Gale Warning brought in $2.20 for second. Railee Possible crossed the wire third. There was no show wagering available on the Monday feature.

Owned by Diane Norris and Alfred Brotter, and trained by Gordon Norris, Tweedle Dum has visited the Pompano winner’s circle in six of seven starts this season, including a triumph in the $77,800 Mack Lobell Trotting Series final in February.

With his victory in Monday’s trot, Tweedle Dum boosted his seasonal bankroll to $87,900, with lifetime earnings in excess of $297,000. Over the past two years, the gelding has prevailed in 27 of 38 starts. (Pompano Park)
