Devilfish and Western Shore, two Erv Miller trainees that looked so sharp earlier this year, both sneaked wins onto their respective 3-year-old ledgers at Balmoral Saturday night.

Devilfish won his conditioned pace in 1:52.1 with Ryan Anderson aboard. The Cam’s Card Shark gelding popped eyes with a 1:50.1 win at Balmoral June 17. Before Saturday, Devilfish had not made a start for Waxman’s Vandalay Racing since the Hanover Aug. 17. He is four-for-eight with $48,740 banked this year.

Western Shore paced from worst to first to win his conditioned pace in 1:52 for young Anderson. This Western Hanover sophomore son was scattering leaves at Woodbine late last spring, winning three straight lower-level paces, two in 1:51. He was an early favorite for the Hoosier Cup June 16, but was fifth. Western Shore circled the field for his connections: Brittany Farms, Ron Michelson, trainer Miller and Riverview Farms. Western Shore has made $54,834 this year.
