Two eliminations for the Art Rooney Pace for 3-year-old colts were radically different as the first turned into a quick sprint for Badlands Nitro, who scored in 1:51.4, and the second was a sleeper for Santanna Blue Chip, who stole a ::29.4 second quarter and eventually won in 1:54.2.
Badlands Nitro was driven by Jason Bartlett since Brian Sears, his regular driver, stayed at the Meadowlands to drive Arch Madness in the Titan Cup. Bartlett and Badlands Nitro had control at the half in :55.4 and then won by 1 3/4 lengths with a :27.4 final quarter. Dontloseyourdayjob finished second while Moon Beam was third.
Santanna Blue Chip, the 1-2 favorite, controlled the pace in the second elim after John Campbell, driving Meant To Be Me, let him go in a :28.3 first panel. Jody Jamieson hit the brakes for the second quarter, reaching the halfway mark in :58.2. In the stretch drdive Campbell stayed close with Meant To Be Me, but Santanna Blue Chip stayed game and won.
The Art Rooney Pace is scheduled for July 5 at Yonkers.
