Two European trotters making their first-ever North American appearance, and 12 others, including recent Breeders Crown champion Corleone Kosmos, have been entered in the $700,000(C)(est) Maple Leaf Trot, which will have two $50,000(C) eliminations Saturday night at Mohawk Racetrack.
The two foreigners are Colombian Necktie and Improve AS. Colombian Necktie is a 6-year-old gelded son of Alf Palema, trained by Roger Walmann. The trotter has 12 career victories and more than a half-million dollars in purse earnings. He will be driven by Thomas Uhrberg from post four in the first Maple Leaf Trot elim.
Coming over from France, Improve AS is an 8-year-old son of Tagliabue trained by Fabrice Souloy and driven by Tony Le Beller. A 19-time winner, Improve As has career earnings of approximately $700,000.
Taking on Colombian Necktie in the first elim will be Corleone Kosmos, Up Front Ben, Arch Madness, Armbro Continental, Chick N Tell and Val Taurus. Man About Town, Armbro Chronicle, Enough Talk, Abbey Road C, Digital Image and Prayer I Am will vie with Improve As in the second elim.
