Two horses supplemented to Messenger

October 17, 2007 Send To A Friend  | Print View

Eleven 3-year-olds--eight colts and three geldings--were entered for the 2007 edition of the Messenger  Stakes at Yonkers Raceway, the final jewel of the Pacing Triple Crown.

The total purse of the 52nd Messenger is a stakes-record $805,480, thanks in large part to a pair of $60,000 supplemental entrants--two-time New York  Sire Stakes champion Kenneth J and Tivoli Hanover, who won a divison of Freehold's James Dancer Memorial last Saturday.

The number of entrants necessitated a pair of $40,000 elimination races--races seven and eight on the 10-race Saturday program. The top four finishers in each will return for the $725,480 final on Oct. 27.

The divinity of the divisions landed both buy-ins in the same (second) elim, with Tivoli Hanover (George Brennan) drawing the pylons and Kenneth J (Ron  Pierce) landing post four.
