Two veterinarians attending to horses competing at The Red Mile in Lexington were indefinitely suspended Thursday by the Kentucky Horse Racing Commission (KHRC) pending the results of an on-going investigation. On Wednesday, two KHRC investigators searched two trucks owned by Rick Mather and Rick Rothfuss, who are partners in a veterinary practice in Columbus, Ohio.
The investigators seized records and unidentified substances, said Lisa Underwood, KHRC executive director. The substances will be sent to a laboratory for testing.
Richard Williams, KHRC’s presiding judge for Standardbred racing, imposed the suspension after reviewing the physical evidence. A hearing on the suspension is pending. (KHRC)
