U Betta Winna wasn’t in the race for three-quarters of a mile on Wednesday night at Scioto Downs, but he was in the winner’s circle after the race. Ohio Hall of Famer Chip Noble drove the 4-year-old pacing gelding to victory in 1:57.1 after the leaders tired and U Betta Winna went from last to first in the final quarter. His winning margin was a half-length over the 47-1 Shackleton Hanover and the 14-1 Megawatt. Favored Stucker Bunny, driven by Dan Noble, set fast fractions, but paid the price in the final quarter as he faded to fifth. U Betta Winna paid $14.20 to win while the exacta paid $250.80. It was the first win of the 2010 season in five starts for U Betta Winna, who is trained by Mike Evans for owners Jason Solomon and Mark Nolan, both of Ohio. It was only his second win in 37 career starts. Also on the Wednesday card, the trotting mare Lillians Chip was impressive in her 8-1/2 length win in 1:58 for trainer Ed Bibler and driver Dan Noble. Ethel Schneider of Pennsylvania owns the gate-to-wire winner. Driver Kayne Kauffman had a driving triple on Wednesday.
