May 16, 2006 Send To A Friend  | Print View

Ultimate Bet made it a clean sweep in the 30th edition of the Princess Pacing Series at Woodbine Monday, and she did so in stakes record time for trainer Erv Miller and driver Mark MacDonald.

The 3-year-old daughter of Bettors Delight-Sign Of Rain, who paced to 1:52.4 and 1:52.2 decisions in the preliminary rounds, stepped to a career-best clocking of 1:52 in the $79,000 ( C ) final. The 1:52 clocking also erased the 1:52.3 stake record set by Respectednbeloved in the 2004 edition of the Princess Pacing Series.

Ultimate Bet got away third off the wings of the starting gate and the filly remained in that position through the :26.2 opening quarter. MacDonald brushed his charge to the lead before the field hit the backstretch and successfully carved out the remaining panels of :55 and 1:23.4 before getting the filly to sprint home in :28.1 for the 1:52 decision.

Ultimate Bet prevailed by 1 1/2-lengths over Gina Raider, who made nice late gains to grab second prize, while Everybreathutake finished third after sitting the pocket trip for most of the mile.

Ultimate Bet, who is owned by Vandalay Racing of Ancaster, ON, improved her 2006 record to 3-1-1 in 5 starts with the win and her lifetime earnings soared to $82,350 (C ).
