Un-Real Desire sets mark

Real Desire made plenty of headlines while he earned more than $3.1 million over his racing career, and now Un-Real Desire has made his own. On Saturday, April 8, the 6-year-old gelding Un-Real Desire's 1:57.2 win over the half-mile Scarborough Downs racetrack earned him the distinction of being the first Standardbred to pace that fast before mid May in the state of Maine.



With John Beckwith driving for trainer Richard Robertson Jr., Un-Real Desire's effort was also a career best. The son of Life Sign out of mare Camela Anderson won for the second time in eight starts this year and 13th in 103 career outings. He boosted his lifetime earnings to $38,026, so he will still need plenty of desire to catch Real Desire in the money department.



According to reports, the previous early-season speed record was 1:57 by Mac Only M Todd set on May 18, 2004.
