Underwood named at KHRA

Lisa Underwood, the attorney for the Kentucky Horse Racing Authority, has been appointed its executive director by Gov. Ernie Fletcher, replacing Jim Gallagher who resigned for family reasons. Underwood had been deputy commissioner for the Department of Public Protection.

"I grew up in Lexington going to the horse races, and have always enjoyed it," Underwood told the Louisville Courier-Journal. "And it's kind of been a big part of our family life."

"The Racing Authority has made tremendous strides the past two years under Jim Gallagher's leadership," Fletcher said in a statement. "Lisa Underwood's experience with the Racing Authority will ensure a smooth transition and continued effort to grow our signature industry."
