Bigmizndrstnding converted off a perfect pocket trip to upset in Friday night’s single $17,000 division in the opening round of the Apaches Fame Pacing Series for three-year-old Ontario sired colts and geldings at Woodbine Racetrack.

It was the first career start over the 7/8's mile oval for the son of No Pan Intended - Bigzmiz who had won two straight races to kick off the season at London’s Western Fair Raceway.

In Friday’s contest, Bigmizndrstnding left alertly from post one for driver Jody Jamieson and yielded quickly to next door neighbor Whitesand Macgyver who took the field past the opening quarter in :27 seconds. The pacesetter continued uncontested through a first half of :56.1 with race favourite Nanuets Z Tam sitting back in sixth position.

Whitesand Macgyver was forced to pick up the pace in the third quarter as Nanuets Z Tam came on the attack and prompted the leader through three panels in 1:25.1. Whitesand Macgyver was able to dispose of the first-over challenger but then had the pocket-sitter to deal with, and could not hold him off in the 1:54 mile.

The winner returned $24.10 on the nose and turned back Whitesand Macgyver with Nanuets Z Tam salvaging the show spot.

Bigmizndrstnding, trained by colt specialist Jim Ainsworth, won once in just four starts last season at age two and is now perfect in three starts this year for owners Larry Ainsworth of Petrolia, Ontario and William Boden of Vancouver, British Columbia.

The Apaches Fame Series will continue next Friday night at Woodbine. (WEG)
