Upsets in Tie Silk Series

April 16, 2007 Send To A Friend  | Print View

Upsets were the order of the night in Sunday night's second leg of the Tie Silk Trotting Series at Woodbine Racetrack.

In the first of two $18,000(C) divisions in race one, it was Grogan who used a ground-saving trip to prevail narrowly in 1:58.3. Trainer Lorne House guided the 3-year-old son of Angus Hall-Magnetic Moment out between trotters in the last stages to win by three-quarters of a length over Guilford and Ucaneverspenditall. The clocking was a new lifetime mark.

The victory was the first in just two starts this season for Grogan who is owned by Emerson Gill and Graeme Harvey of Ontario.

In the second split it was Renaissance Man, who was also making his second start of the season, prevailing for Jody Jamieson in 1:59. The gelded son of Yankee Glide-Kosmo Girl followed race favorite Rose Run Invader into the stretch and then stormed past that rival late for his maiden-breaking win.

Renaissance Man showed several qualifying miles on his charts where he had been plagued by breaking problems. He is trained by Paula Wellwood who co-owns with Paul MacDonell Racing Stable.

The Tie Silk Final will go next Sunday night at Woodbine. (WEG)
