Members of District 12 (New Jersey) of the United States Trotting Association met Friday morning at Freehold Raceway and returned Jeff Gregory to the board as the horsemen's director by a vote of 533-226 over challenger Tom Luchento, who serves as president of the Standardbred Breeders and Owners Association of New Jersey.
It also was announced that Alex Dadoyan of the Meadowlands would replace incumbent Chris McErlean as a track director, with McErlean filling a vacancy created by the resignation of board member Peter Koch.
The remainder of the District 12 board includes John Brennan, who was re-elected chairman, and Jacqueline Ingrassia. Membership recommended rejecting the majority of proposed rule changes and tabled a vote on the most discussed issue, changes to the whipping rule. Members voiced their hope that continued discussions between horsemen, officials and fans can lead to a consensus on the issue of whipping prior to the February meeting of the full USTA board of directors.
