U.S. Trotting Association president Phil Langley has announced the composition of a search committee that will review candidates for the currently vacant position of USTA executive vice president.

USTA director Russell Williams, chairman of the Standardbred Horse Sales Co., will preside, and be assisted by committee vice chairman John Schuberg, also a director and an owner, breeder and trainer who resides in Michigan.

Langley also announced that two members of Harness Racing’s Living Hall of Fame, driver John Campbell and owner-breeder and Hambletonian Society member Elbridge “Ebby” Gerry Jr., will join several other USTA directors on the search committee.

“We are very pleased that both have agreed to lend their outside input to this important task,” Langley said.

The balance of the committee is comprised of Langley and more members of the USTA Board of Directors, including current USTA chairman of the board Ivan Axelrod and former chairmen Joe Faraldo and Paul Fontaine, as well as Richard Brandt, Peter Koch, Sam Beegle, Alan Leavitt, Pat Quaglietta, and Jeff Gregory.

Langley said he hopes that the search committee will be able to forward its recommendation to the USTA’s Executive Committee not later than the first week in August.

Those who wish to communicate with the committee should do so through USTA executive secretary Sally Stauffer, via e-mail or regular mail, only, at stauffer@ustrotting.com, or at 750 Michigan Ave., Columbus, Ohioi 43215. (USTA)
