Valentowner, who ripped off five straight wins at The Meadows before a recent slump, rebounded with authority Wednesday by taking the track’s $25,000 Preferred Handicap Pace with a powerful first-over move in the slop. Third at the half, Valentowner responded to Brett Miller’s urging by overtaking the leader, Armbro Billow, and blazing home in 27.4 to score in 1:51.1 at a healthy 11-1. Pedro Island was 1/2-length back in second, with Jojo N Goliath a rallying third. Jim Arledge, Jr. trains Valentowner, a 5-year-old son of Towner’s Big Guy-Key’s Valentine who extended his career bankroll to $333,721, for Bob Key. Trainer Ron Burke enjoyed a triple on the 13-race card. (The Meadows)
