September 07, 2006 Send To A Friend  | Print View

Racing at Vernon Downs Thursday night will be hot as the best drivers and the best horses vie for big purses and potentially record setting times.

“We haven’t seen speed burners like some of these horses in years here at the Downs,” said Jason Settlemoir, regional vice president of racing and simulcast. “Their pedigrees are impeccable and, if conditions are right, we may see a track record set.”

Ten marquee races are on Thursday’s card including a leg of the $10,000 Kindergarten Classic, the second leg of the $25,000 Miss Versatility and the $83,500 Artiscape final.

“Not only is the Artiscape the big money race of the evening, harness racing’s top drivers are in town to take the reins of some top notch horses,” Settlemoir said. In the ninth race two horses, Glowing Report and Burning Point, are millionaires with Burning Point crossing the line for over $2.5 million lifetime.
