Vernon Downs has carded 10 races for its opening night on Friday, April 17, with a post time of 6:55 pm. Race Day t-shirts and 2009 schedule magnets will be passed out to patrons at the door beginning at 6 pm, while supplies last. Immediately following the 10-race card will be a fireworks display to celebrate opening night of the 2009 race season.
Highlighting the night’s card will be the co-featured $9,000 Open Trot. Nine trotters have been drawn into the event led by 4-year-old John Paul’s Legacy, who as a sophomore banked over $100,000 in earnings. Angus Mac Donald trains and drives the son of Credit Winner for Emil Benvenuto. John Paul’s Legacy took his lifetime mark last year at Vernon Downs with a 1:58.3 triumph, and will make his 11th start of 2009.
Howard Okusko Jr. will send out Sir Prize Hall from post position one, with the horse making his seasonal debut for the Purple Haze Stable. Jessica Okusko conditions the 4-year-old Conway Hall trotter.
Vernon Downs will also race Saturday, April 18, for the second of its 90-day meet. For more information on Vernon Downs please visit us on our website at www.vernondowns.com
