Vernon's feature trot, pace

November 18, 2006 Send To A Friend  | Print View

The favorite B Cor Kenny and second wagering choice Besmitten By A Vet posted victories in the top trot and pace, respectively, at Vernon Downs on Friday night. Michael White’s B Cor Kenny captured the $3,885 eighth event, the week’s featured trot, while Dennis Whittemore’s Besmitten By A Vet benefited from a pocket trip to win the $4,500 ninth race, the week’s main event for female pacers.

Trainer Dan Daley advanced B Cor Kenny from third at the half into the lead before the final furlong, and the dynamic duo drew off for solid 3 3/4-length score in 1:58.1. The fast-closing tally resulted in the second straight Vernon victory and the seventh season’s score for the 5-year-old gelding, who increased his career earnings to more than $167,900.

Besmitten By A Vet idled behind the pacesetting That Girl until the stretch drive then pulled to the outside and kicked home in a 27.3 final quarter to win going away in 1:57. Whittemore’s talented son, Jimmy, did the driving as the 4-year-old mare secured her second local tally and fourth season’s triumph. The quick-striding daughter of The Panderosa has produced nearly $20,000 after 29 current outings. (Vernon Downs)
