Vesuvio AS exploded off the gate and cut the mile, capturing the $100,000 New Jersey Sire Stakes Premier Division Championship for 3-year-old trotting colts and geldings by 5 3/4 lengths on Friday at Freehold Raceway.
The son of Windsong’s Legacy drew off with a :28.4 final quarter for a mile time of 1:57.2, only a fifth of a second off of the stakes record.
Driver Tim Tetrick was at the lines as the colt bested his entrymate, Howthehaloareyou, a son of Yankee Glide. They returned $2.40, $2.60, $2.10. It was 7 1/4 lengths back to Sir Winston, by Revenue, in third.
