Vintage Master put on a powerful and devastating performance in track equaling time to win the 55th Cane Pace, the 1st leg in pacing’s Triple Crown at Freehold Raceway on Monday.

Clear Vision was a ground saving second 5 ½ lengths behind the winner and it was another 3/4 of a length back to Arctic Warrior who was third in the field of six. There were two late scratches, Johnny Z and Western Posse.

Vintage Master took the lead back from Arctic Warrior at the quarter and steadily increased his advantage throughout through fractions of 26:4, 55:4, 1:23:2 and finished up in 1:50:4, tying the track record of Art Official.

With this victory Vintage Master became harness racing’s newest millionaire propelling his bankroll to $1,135,522 with the addition of the $162,500 from The Cane.

In addition, Jimmy Takter became the first trainer in 23 years to win the Yonkers Trot(Judge Joe) and the Cane Pace in the same year.

It was the first Cane win for driver Dan Dube and he said after the race that “Vintage Master is on his way to the Little Brown Jug and after that it is up to Mr. Takter”.

He returned $4.80 to win and sparked a $27.60 exacta.

The Little Brown Jug is the 2nd leg in pacing’s Triple crown and the Messenger is the final jewel.

In the supporting feature, Showherthemoney, in track record time for 3 year old pacing fillies took the 1st division of the $148,600 Shady Daisy. With Jimmy Morrill Jr. up the daughter of Cam’s Card Shark stopped the teletimer in 1:52:4.

The Bulletproof Enterprise owned and Tracy Brainard trained filly took over for good just after the initial quarter and rolled to a 4 ¼ length score over Perfectionist, who finished up ¾ over That’s The Plan. The winner returned 3.00 to win.

In the 2nd division Dingle Bay made good on an even money promise going wire to wire for a ½ length win over Kabbalah Karen B who arrived 2 ¼ lengths before Jkmusicofthenite.

The winner has now won 4 of 5 since joining the Ron Burke stable and tripped the clock in 1:54:2 with Yannick Gingras steering. (Freehold)
