Reigning Older Trotter of the Year Vivid Photo made his first appearance of 2008 Wednesday morning at The Meadows, easily scoring a 1:59.3 victory in a qualifier. Trainer, driver and co-owner Roger Hammer told harnessracing.com shortly afterward that he plans on qualifying the winner of more than $2.8 million three or possibly four more times before entering him for his first pari-mutuel start April 7 in the opening round of the Classic Series at Dover Downs.
"It usually takes three or four starts for him to get back into shape," said Hammer after directing Vivid Photo through fractions of :30, 1:00.2 and 1:30 before going on to the 3 1/4-length victory. "But he was good for his first start today, especially since it was cold and windy."
The winner of the 2005 Hambletonian, Vivid Photo was voted 3-Year-Old Colt Trotter of the Year that season. He then finished second in voting for Older Trotter of the Year in 2006 behind Sand Vic, and then earned Dan Patch honors last year at age five. Now six, the son of SJ's Photo enters 2008 with $2,846,708 in earnings for Hammer and Todd Schadel. His last start of 2007 resulted in a 1:50.4 victory in the Patriot at Colonial Downs, an effort that equaled Victory Tilly's world record for older trotters.
