It was smooth sailing for heavy favorite Vulcanize in Thursday night's lone $241,945 division of the Simcoe Stakes for 3-year-old filly trotters at Mohawk as she scored for driver Ron Pierce in 1:56.1.
Starting from post five in the field of eight, Pierce got the daughter of Muscles Yankee – My Starchip away third in the early going and had her up to take over command just past the opening quarter of :28.4. From there, the duo faced no serious challenges and cruised through middle-half splits of :58.2 and 1:28. Vulcanize was able to open up a two-length cushion turning for home and then cruised to the easy victory over Just Dandy and Radiant Lindy. The win was the sixth in 13 starts this season for the Bob McIntosh trainee who did not race at two. The lion’s share of the purse increased her bankroll to just under $500,000 for the Lothlorien Equestrian Centre of Mississauga, Ontario.
