February 23, 2006 Send To A Friend  | Print View

A few weeks off did nothing to take the edge off Vysoke Tatry, who captured the first of two $16,000 opening-round divisions of the Night Styles Series on Wednesday night at the Meadowlands in 1:52.2.

It was the 4-year-old Dragon's Lair mare's third win in four starts this year and 10th in 14 career starts. She was making her first start since winning the White Ruffles final on Jan. 26.

Vysoke Tatry, driven by Andy Miller and trained by Erv Miller, won by one length over Lye Creek Betty. Yancee was third by 1 1/4 lengths.

Vysoke Tatry swept the Snow Angel Series in December and breezed to victory in the White Ruffles Series in January. She is bidding for her third straight Meadowlands series for pacing mares.

The Andray Farm of Punxsutawney, Pa. bred and owns Vysoke Tatry, who was named for a mountain resort in Slovakia. She has lifetime earnings of $91,980.

In the second division, 25-1 longshot Cool Character caught Thedevilmademedoit for a half-length tally in 1:52.3. I'm All In was third by a length and three-quarters.

Cool Character, driven by George Brennan and trained by Rick Bilach, was claimed out of a $20,000 claiming handicap on Jan. 18 by Richard Annunziata. The daughter of Shady Character was making her second start for her new connections.

The Night Styles continues next week with a $57,000 final on March 8.
