Vysoke Tatry wins series

Vysoke Tatry, the 3-5 favorite, broke stride on the turn for home, spotted the field a dozen lengths and rallied to win the $57,000 Night Styles final in 1:52.4 Wednesday night at the Meadowlands.

It was the 4-year-old mare's third Meadowlands series title and fifth win in six starts this year, and 12th win in 16 career starts.

This victory, her fourth in a row, was her most dramatic. After she broke stride, she was last as the field hit the three-quarter pole. Driver Andy Miller settled her back pacing and she started an outside charge in which she swooped by the nine other mares to win by two lengths over I'm All In.

Vysoke Tatry her last quarter timed in :27.4, a second faster than anyone else in the race.

"I left out of there (from post 10) pretty hard," said driver Andy Miller, who drives the mare for his brother, trainer Erv Miller. "I got in the middle of the field there, somewhere where I felt comfortable. I was just trying to get her into the race a little bit. We were moving up a little bit and heading into the last turn, and she caught a little glimpse of the whip. It spooked her, and she darted sideways. And she took off running, but she caught back pretty quick. I'd say she lost 10 lengths at least. When she got back pacing, I thought she had a little shot. She had a lot of ground to make up, but she was pacing hard."

Vysoke Tatry's victory in the Night Styles boosted her career earnings to $128,480 for owner-breeder Andray Farm, the nom de course of brothers David George and John Prushnok.
