March 13, 2007 Send To A Friend  | Print View

Both Simply Mavelous and Tara Artiste flashed speed and went wire-to-wire in taking divisions in the opening leg of the Silver Reign Pacing Series Monday at Woodbine.

Mark MacDonald guided Simply Mavelous to a head-bob win over Twin B Diva in the $17,000(C) first division of the series for 3-year-old fillies. Aunt Din was third, beaten 1 ¼ lengths.

Simply Mavelous, a brown Western Maverick filly, was trained to her first win of the season and fifth lifetime by Wayne Preszcator for Alan Guthrie of Windsor.

While Twin B Diva was hounding her the whole trip through fractions of :28.2, :58.2, 1:27, she managed to hang on in a final time of 1:54.4. She paid $5.50 to win.

Luc Ouellette used similar speed tactics in taking Tara Artiste to the winner’s circle in the evening’s second division.

From the five hole, the daughter of Mach Three cut opening splits of :27.4 and :57.1 en route to a three-quarters of a length victory over late-closing Locomotion Baby. Hazel May and Stabilo were in dead heat for third.

Kevin McMaster trained the now six-time winner, who went the mile in 1:54.4, for Nova Scotian L. David Ratchford. Tara Artiste paid $12.50 to win.

The second leg of the Silver Reign goes next Monday, March 19, while the $48,200(C) final is set for Monday, March 26. (WEG)
