Yonkers Raceway's Friday night fare was highlighted by the $283,848 New York Sire Stakes for for 3-year-old colts and geldings, with each split worth $70,962.
Celebrity Bluechip scored with style in his division of the New York Sire Stakes and was the easiest of winners for driver Jason Bartlett. Leaving from post position number two, he led at every pylon through comfy intervals of :30.1, :59.4, 1:29.2 and hitting the wire in 1:58.1. Celebrity Bluechip won by 2 1/2 lengths over Cider With Ice (Dan Dailey).
Celebrity Bluechip, a son of Credit Winner trained by Staffan Lind for co-owners Celebrity Farms, Herbert Burns III and Stephen Demeter, returned $2.30 for his sixth win and third consecutive New York Sire Stakes in 13 season’s starts.
"He figured to be the best in here, but I'm always a bit concerned about the first turn," Bartlett said. "He's just a good horse, and you know what? We haven't seen his best. I know there's more with him."
Waldorf Hall got the classic pocket trip on the way to upsetting his division. He sat the pocket to defending New York Sire Stakes Final winner Blacktuxwhitesox (Jeff Gregory) in the final event, then rolled by and ran up the score.
Waldorf Hall defeated Big Stick Lindy (Ray Schnittker) by 3-1/2 lengths in an evening's-fastest 1:57.1, with even money "Blacktux" fading to third.
Waldorf Hall, a Conway Hall colt trained by Per Henriksen for Canadian co-owners Steve Organ and Asa Farm, retuened $21.60 as the fourth choice for his third win and second consecutive New York Sire Stakes win in a dozen '10 tries.
"I felt very confident I would go by," Fladen said, "He was very good in his last start (at Tioga Downs), and he was even better tonight."
Friday night's other New York Sire Stakes were won by:
--Whata Winner, g (by Credt Winner); co-owned by trainer-driver Jim Doherty, Thomas Dillon and Terrax Inc., won won in 1:58.2 and paid $2.20 to win; and --Jocular (by Conway Hall), owned by Robert Rosenheim Stables, trained by John Staskowski, and driven by Jason Bartlett to a 1:59 win. (Yonkers)
