August 01, 2007 Send To A Friend  | Print View

Walnut Hall Ltd. has purchased a 50 percent interest in the undefeated 2-year-old trotting colt Deweycheatumnhowe. The purchase was announced by Alan J. Leavitt, president of Walnut Hall Ltd., which is owned by his wife, Meg Jewett.

Ray Schnittker, who selected and developed Deweycheatumnhowe, will remain the trainer and driver, and Schnittker and his three partners, Frank Baldassare, Ted Gewertz and Charles Iannazzo, will all continue to hold ownership interests in the colt.

Deweycheatumnhowe is undefeated in four lifetime starts, which include the prestigious Harriman Cup and two legs and the final of the New Jersey Sire Stakes at the Meadowlands.  His earnings to date are $149,250, and his record of 1:57 was the season’s fastest when taken.

A son of leading sire Muscles Yankee, out of Trolley Square, by Speedy Somolli, Deweycheatumnhowe is inbred 2x4 to Speedy Somolli, who is not only the sire of his dam, but the great grandsire of Muscles Yankee.

Leavitt stated that Deweycheatumnhowe’s unique pedigree, imposed on his obvious excellence on the racetrack, gave the colt tremendous sire potential when he retires to the stud. (Walnut Hall Ltd. press release)
