Warm weather leads to Hot Lather

Unseasonably mild temperatures led to extra fast mile won by Hot Lather, on Monday at Dover Downs. Brian Sears drove five winners and Tony Morgan three.

Sears wheeled Up Front Jerry into the lead after the quarter and then played follow the leader on the way to a 1:50.2 triumph in the $35,000 Preferred Pace, The Western Hanover gelding has been close up in most of his last six races with a win, three seconds and two thirds for owners Sylvia Burke, Weaver Bruscemi and Joe Chiovetta. Fake Denario N with Eric Goodell driving finished second. Prince Of Luck and Brandon Givens finished third.

Sears was in the bike behind Kovach Stables Art Director in the $32,500 Delaware Special Invitational and the Artiscape 7 year old responded with a wire-to-wire 1:51 score for Sears' fifth win of the night. Beware Beret and Ron Pierce tagged along second from the start with Thin Blue Line with Ross Wolfenden picking up third money.

Jack Davis' Hot Lather pulled out of fourth at the three quarters and rolled three wide around the final turn for Corey Callahan on the way to a 1:50.4 victory in the $26,000 Open Pace. Home Run Hudson and Eric Goodell was runner-up while front pacing Jordan's Planet with Pierce held on for third.

There were three $21,000 winners-over paces. Pierce and Fade N Away, owned by the Robertos and Anthony Capone, enjoyed a perfect trip following Quick And Deadly with Morgan until mid stretch before coming on for a 1:51 score in one division. White Hot Cards and Kevin Sizer was third.

Mattazuma went right down the pike from post one to notch a 1:51.2 victory in another $21,000 winners-over. It was the third win in his last four starts for the Bill Emmons-owned Matt's Scooter gelding. It was also trainer Dylan Davis' third haltered winner on the program. Menno Boy, handled by Eddie Davis Jr. was second and third was Whistle Bear and Mike Cole.

The third $21,000 event was won by B Bad Bill. Two-time winning driver Goodell guided the Badlands Hanover gelding into the lead after the opening panel and then never was headed in a 152.3 decision for GTY Stable and trainer Joe Hundertpfund. Bobnoxious finished second for Tim Curtin with the Sears-driven Devil's Ivy third.

Tom Kelly's Print It won the second of three straight winning drives by Sears, notching a 1:53.1 victory in a $16,500 pace. Armbro Brando (Morgan) finished a strong second in front of XLB Joker (Pierce). (Dover Downs)
