Rumorsliesnalibies turned in a gate-to-wire 1:59 victory to capture the fastest of two $15,000 divisions in the opening round of the Bridger Trotting Series for two-year-old colts and geldings, while Waterstone won the second split Thursday at Mohawk Racetrack.

The opening split went to Waterstone--named for harnessracing.com's Gordon Waterstone--for trainer-driver Jimmy Takter in 1:59.4. The son of Yankee Glide-PJs Nannette converted off a pocket trip to haul down pacesetter Lancer Springs.

It was the first career start for the $70,000 yearling purchase out of last fall’s Lexington Select Sale. He had won his first baby race at the Meadowlands but then came down sick. After a month he returned to the races, finishing fourth in a baby race at the Big M. In his third baby race he made a break early, but Takter said afterward the miscue was caused when a cat ran across the racetrack.

Waterstone is owned by Christina Takter, Margaret Oweida, John Fielding and Louie Camara.

Rumorsliesnalibies, a son of former Canadian record holder Dr. Ronerail, shot straight to the front from post five for driver Steve Condren and did not look back, holding off Kangamangus and Northern Zephyr.

The victory was a maiden-breaking win in the fifth career start for Rumorsliesnalibies who is co-owned by John Allen and trainer Bill Van Katwyk.

The Bridger Series continues next Thursday night at Mohawk. (with files from WEG)
