Stepaside Larry came charging late to win Thursday's ninth race at Woodbine, sending one happy racing fan home with the entire Pick 7 pool of $211,408.75(C). The sharp and lucky handicapper bought the winning ticket at a SAM machine on-track at Woodbine.

In the Pick 7, bettors must correctly select the winners of races three through nine. If there are no winning tickets, 25 percent of the net pool is paid out to the ticket holder(s) with the most correct winners, and the balance is carried over to begin the next day's races.

No one had cashed the wager for several weeks, producing a carryover of $146,839 heading into the evening Standardbred card. Another $87,739 was bet into the pool on Thursday.

The winning Pick 7 ticket featured the following horses: Lock N Load West in the third race (first leg of the wager, $12.60), Nobananas in the fourth ($14.20), K G Wrangler in the fifth ($7.50), Ozo Idzarda in the sixth ($10.80), Winston Image in the seventh ($6.10), Nates Got A Grin in the eighth ($4.50) and Stepaside Larry in the ninth ($10.90).

Stepaside Larry was down more than seven lengths in mid-stretch before edging 27-1 longshot Cool Cal by 1 1/4 lengths at the wire.

The all-time highest Pick 7 payout at WEG came at Woodbine on Dec. 10, 2004, when a lucky and sharp handicapper took the entire $1,017,163.50 pool. (WEG)
