WDB Pick 7 pot growing

Two big upsets, one historic, at Woodbine on Monday evening has sent the Pick 7 carryover pool for Thursday's card of racing sky high. On Monday, racing fans could only get six winners in the Pick
7 at the Toronto oval, setting up a $150,000 guaranteed payout if someone gets all seven winners on Thursday.

In fact, the pot is likely to get much larger than the guarantee, perhaps topping the $200,000 mark, if Monday's $89,139 Pick 7 handle is any indication. The carryover heading into Thursday's card is $146,839.

On Monday, Vallad rocked the grandstand to get the popular exotic wager started, scoring a $56.30 upset in the third race (the Pick 7's first leg). Indian Stage Annie's $58.30 shocker in the seventh likely ensured a carryover.

Phil Hudon drove Indian Stage Annie to victory for his 3,000th career driving score.

The six of seven Pick 7 consolation paid $6,562.55.

The other winners were B Cor Terry ($4.10) in the 4th, Jatefield ($5.70) in the 5th, Cordial Martini ($17.20) in the 6th, Overs Last Promise ($6.40) in the 8th and Bobby Yankee ($10.40) in the 9th.

In the Pick 7, bettors must correctly select the winners of races three through nine. If there are no winning tickets, 25 percent of the net pool is paid out to the ticket holder(s) with the most correct winners, and the balance is carried over to begin the next day's races.

The all-time highest Pick 7 payout at WEG came at Woodbine on Dec. 10, 2004, when a lucky and sharp handicapper took the entire $1,017,163.50 pool. (WEG)
