Because of what trainer and co-owner Brent MacGrath termed to harnessracing.com "a dirty, miserable day" at Mohawk Racetrack on Friday, the highly-regarded 3-year-old colt pacer Somebeachsomewhere was scratched out of his qualifying race and instead will now wait until Monday morning to qualify. Also among the scratches were trainer Carl Jamieson's top sophomore colt pacers Santanna Blue Chip and Legacy Of Diamonds.
"We would have went if we needed to go, but you couldn't see because of the fog," said MacGrath. "I guess that's North America in May."
MacGrath added that Somebeachsomewhere, co-Horse of the Year in Canada in 2007 and divisional champion in the U.S., is on target for the upcoming Ontario Sire Stakes Gold elim and final at Mohawk and then the Burlington May 31.
"He's awesome; he's strong," said MacGrath. "The other day I trained him (at Mohawk) in a quarter in :25 and a piece and a half in :54, and he was on cruise control."
Rain and fog enveloped the Mohawk area Friday morning which led to the Mohawk stewards giving a three-second track variance. The charts from the races show "fog" calls throughout.
