Welch has one-two punch

Return Home
October 24, 2005 | Print View

Trainer Roger Welch delivered a one-two punch in the $13,800 ISOBA Stakes on Sunday night at Balmoral. His Victor's Pursuit won the state-bred stake for 3-year-old trotting fillies in 1:57.1, while his other charge Arcola picked up second prize.

Dave Magee was in the sulky behind the Valley Victor winner, while Tim Tetrick piloted the other daughter of Valley Victor. Victor's Pursuit now has 11 wins in 22 starts this season and just over $170,000 in career earnings (she did not race at two).

Tim Tetrick drove Arcola, who now has a 6-5-2 record from 18 seasonal starts and just over $72,000 in seasonal monies. Arcola was the Illinois champion 2-year-old filly, earning $198,482 as a freshman.

Trainer Tom Harmer saw his Pujols score that same night with Dave Magee doing the driving. The standout son of Cole Muffler cruised to a 1:53.4 clocking the $47,600 Sarah Myers Stakes, picking up his sixth win of the season in ten career starts. The bay colt pushed his lifetime earnings to $124,650 for owner Michael Polansky of Loudonville, NY.

Pujols finished 3 1/4 lengths ahead of rival I Believe Its True (Sam Widger), with Fox Valley Cruiser (Mike Oosting) picking up the show check.
