Well Said named favorite in first Little Brown Jug future pool

Wagering on the first of three Little Brown Jug future wagering pools will get underway at noon on Thursday at racetracks throughout North America and on internet sites. Future wagering will be offered through 11:30 p.m. Sunday, July 26.

North America Cup and Meadowlands Pace winner Well Said (2-1) is the morning line favorite in the future Jug pool. Co-owner Jeff Snyder said it’s a bit early, but he and his partner Susan Grange have the date of the 64th Little Brown Jug--Thursday, Sept. 24--circled on the calendar. Steve Elliott is the trainer.

Art Colony, who was second to Well Said in both the elimination and final of the North America Cup, is next at odds of (4-1). Casie Coleman is the trainer. Dial Or Nodial, who captured the New Jersey Sires Stakes final and also won an elimination of the North America Cup, is (9-2) in the morning line. Jim Campbell is the trainer.

The future wager allows racing  fans to bet early on all 3 year olds who are eligible to the Little Brown Jug. The minimum bet is $2 and all future wagers are win betting only.

Complete past performance lines for all Jug eligibles will be available free on the Little Brown Jug web site: www.littlebrownjug.com.

A team of racing analysts and handicappers selected the group of 23 colts and geldings. Each colt was then assigned odds based on the selection order. The horses in each of the three future wagering pools will be listed in alphabetical order.

All other 3 year olds were packaged together into one “field” wager. The field will open at 10-1 odds. Every 3 year old in North America is included in the field because if a colt wins the Cane Pace on Sept. 7 he can be supplemented into the Little Brown Jug.

The second future wagering pool will be from Thursday, Aug. 27 through Sunday  Aug. 30, the week before the Cane Pace final. The third future wagering pool opens at 12 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 20 through 11:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 23, the first four afternoons of Grand Circuit racing at the Delaware, Ohio Fair.

The draw for post positions for the 2009 Little Brown Jug will be Saturday morning, Sept. 19 in the log cabin on the backstretch of the fairgrounds. “This the fourth year our fans at the track here in Delaware will have the opportunity to place wagers at the regular betting windows throughout the fairgrounds,” said Phil Terry, general manager and director of marketing.
