Well Said remains on top of Little Brown Jug rankings

Each week Jay Wolf, assistant publicity director of the Little Brown Jug, will rank the Top 10 eligibles for the 64th edition of the Little Brown Jug on Thursday, Sept. 24.
 
Week #2 – July 29, 2009

 

#1 (Last Week #1)     Well Said

Owners: Jeffrey Snyder (NY) and Lothlorien (Ont)

Trainer: Steve Elliott

Driver: Ron Pierce

Career Mark: 1:47.3

Career Earnings: $1,823,808

Good news, bad news week for Well Said. Good news – he won his Adios elimination in 1:49. Bad news – he drew the outside post position (nine) in the $677,665 Adios final on Aug. 1.

 

#2 (Last Week #3)     If I Can Dream

Owner: Bulletproof Enterprises (FL)

Trainer: Tracy Brainard

Driver: George Brennan

Career Mark: 1:49.4f

Career Earnings: $627,645

Won his Adios elimination in a lifetime-est 1:49.4. Finished as the third choice in the Little Brown Jug Future Wager Pool #1 at 10-1.

 

#3 (Last Week #4)     Mr. Wiggles

Owners: Elmer Fannin (DE) and George Teague, Jr. Inc. (DE)

Trainers: Brenda and George Teague Jr

Drivers: Corey Callahan and Jim Morrill Jr.

Career Earnings: $573,371

The Badlands Hanover colt held on for a nose victory over a fast closing Vintage Master in the third and final Adios elimination. Drew post seven for the rich final this Saturday.

 

#4 (Last Week #6)     Keep It Real

Trainer: Joey Shea

Drivers: Steve Condren

Career Mark: 1:50.2s

Career Earnings: $264,525

Pressured Well Said for much of the mile in their Adios Pace elimination. Has finished on the board in all 10 seasonal starts.

 

#5 (Last Week #7)     Vintage Master

Owners: Brittany Farms (KY) and Brian Monieson Trust (IL)

Trainers: Jimmy Takter

Drivers: Daniel Dube

Career Mark: 1:51.3

Career Earnings: $574,190

Has had two straight tough finished, second in the Meadowlands Pace and nosed out in his Adios Pace elimination. The son of Western Ideal drew the rail for Saturday afternoon’s final.

 

#6 (Last Week #5)     Chasin Racin

Owners: Elmer Fannin (DE) and George Teague Jr. Inc. (DE)

Trainers: Brenda and George Teague Jr.

Drivers: David Miller

Career Mark: 1:51.1

Career Earnings: $341,326

Chasin Racin faded to third in the first Adios elim after being parked fifth through a first quarter in :25.4. The colt by The Panderosa will leave from post five in the final with David Miller at the lines.

 

#7 (Last Week #10)   Ideal Danny

Owner: D R Van Witzenburg (IL)

Trainer: Tony Alagna  and Erv Miller

Driver: Yannick Gingras and Andy Miller

Career Mark: 1:50.4

Career Earnings: $311,609

This homebred son of Western Ideal finished second to If I Can Dream in the first elimination, 3 ¾ lengths behind the winner.

 

#8 (Last Week #8)     Johnny Z

Trainers: Brenda and George Teague Jr

Drivers: Jim Morrill Jr. and Brian Sears

Career Mark: 1:51.1f

Career Earnings: $237,307

The son of The Panderosa had plenty of excuses for his seventh place finish in the Adios elimination. Outside post, parked the first half mile and Well Said all hurt his chances. Was selected the 4-1 second choice in the Jug Future Pool #1.

 

#9 (Last Week #2)     Art Colony

Trainer: Casie Coleman

Driver: John Campbell

Career Mark: 1:51.0s

Career Earnings: $762,840

Hervey Award winning writer, Gordon Waterstone, noted in his Meadowlands Pace wrap-up story that Art Colony was suffering from “leg issues” and wasn’t 100 percent for the million-dollar race.
