Well Said’s victory in his Little Brown Jug elimination has been voted the 2009 Race of the Year in balloting conducted on harnessracing.com, the only contest in the sport where fans and horsemen have a say in the winner. Voters had several choices to choose from, but they decided Well Said’s effort in overcoming the outside post eight on the half-mile track at the Delaware, Ohio fairgrounds was an effort worth rewarding.
Honorable mentions went to All Speed Hanover’s narrow victory over Sportswriter in the Breeders Crown final for 2-year-old colt pacers, Broadway Schooner’s Hambletonian Oaks victory in a blanket finish, Muscle Hill’s impressive performance in the Kentucky Futurity, Shark Gesture’s gutsy win in the William Haughton Memorial, and Well Said’s huge effort to win the Meadowlands Pace.
