Wendell Blake dead at 74

Wendell C. Blake died Thursday, Dec. 14, at his residence in Saratoga Springs, N.Y. He was 74.

Mr Blake was an owner and driver for over 50 years and was a member of the Saratoga Harness Hall of Fame. As a driver he won 427 races and over $1.1 million in purses. He drove in his last race Oct. 5, 2006, winning with trotter Lady’s Country Boy at Saratoga Gaming and Raceway.

In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his wife, Eunice, who died in Dec. 1998.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 21, at the William J. Burke & Sons/Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Homes, 628 N. Broadway, Saratoga Springs, N.Y. A graveside service will be held at a time to be announced at Greenridge Cemetery in Saratoga Springs.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Saratoga Harness Hall of Fame, 352 Jefferson Street, Saratoga Springs, N.Y. 12866. Online remembrances may be made at www.burkefuneralhome.com.
