Western Ace wins Wilson

Western Ace tipped off the first-over cover from race favorite Pujols and brushed home with a final quarter in :28.2 to capture the $375,000 Woodrow Wilson final for 2-year-old colt and gelding pacers in 1:51.2 Friday night at the Meadowlands.



Ron Pierce was in the bike as Western Ace followed the first-over move by Pujols and Brian Sears while 75-1 shot Action Nuke and John Campbell led the field to the half in :54.4. Pujols was unable to clear to the lead and the two favorites sat on the outside around the far turn while Mr. Thirty Two and Cat Manzi raced in the two hole.



In the lane Western Ace sprinted into the lead while Mr. Thirty Two rallied up the inside to finish second by 1 1/2 lengths and Pujols held on for third.



Trained by George Teague Jr. and owned by Teague Inc. and the Kovach Stables, the gelded son of Western Ideal scored his third straight victory and sixth of the season in seven starts.
