A pair of Standardbred Breeders Of Ontario Association Stakes (SBOA) for three-year-old fillies headlined Friday's card at Mohawk Racetrack.

Random Destiny delivered in the $168,383 trotting category for trainer/driver Riina Rekila tying the stakes record time of 1:54.1.

Angostura left alertly from post eight for driver Keith Oliver and took command of her rivals past the opening quarter of :27.1. Highland Strikes enjoyed a perfect two-hole trip as Angostura took her rivals past the half in :56 and three-quarters in 1:25.

As the field turned for home Angostura's front-end speed got the best of her and made a costly break which allowed Rekila and Random Destiny to capitalize from off the pace to win in a tight finish over Wilsonator and driver Sylvain Filion with Highland Strikes and Mario Baillargeon finishing third.

"I'm very happy, she has had bad luck with post positions all year so hopefully we can draw post one from now on," Rekila commented in the winners circle interview with WEG's Greg Blanchard.

Overseas Farm owns the daughter of Ken Warkentin who lifted her earnings to $381,250. She paid $5,30 for the victory.

As expected, heavily-favoured Western Silk captured the$164,383 prize for filly pacers.

Doug McNair was the quickest off the gate from post three and sent Tiz To Dream to command before the opening quarter of :26.1. As the field headed towards the half mile marker, driver Jody Jamieson was not content in the two-hole and sent Bay Girl to the front before the half in :54.4.

Western Silk and regular pilot Mark MacDonald had to commit first over as the field headed for three-quarters. Jamieson and Bay Girl lead their rivals through the final panel in 1:23.1.

Down the stretch Western Silk cruised to a easy victory for MacDonald with Tiz To Dream squeezing up the inside to finish second with Bay Girl third.

"Casie (Coleman) told me she was 100 per-cent and thats the first time Casie told me that all year. She's been fighting allergies but she trained and it was just great," MacDonald commented to Blanchard in the post-race interview. "She's number one for pure speed of any horse i have ever driven, especially for a piece. I think she will have a big fall and she got really good last fall and she has really matured."

Western Silk now has career earnings of $952,208 for trainer Casie Coleman and co-owner Tom Hill. (WEG)
