The Standardbred Breeders and Owners Association of New Jersey has announced Joe Parisi's White Birch Farm in Allentown as breeder of the year for 2004. A special presentation will be made Saturday, Jan. 29, at the annual New Jersey Equine Awards dinner at the Freehold Gardens Hotel.

Usually listed among the top breeders in North Aerica with the sale of yearlings each fall, the Parisi family is being recognized by the SBOA/NJ for its many contributions to the Standardbred horse industry in New Jersey. Joe Parisi and his late wife Marie founded the farm more than 35 years ago as Jo-Mar Farm, where they stood one of the original New Jersey Sire Stakes stallions, Adios Ronnie. They bred, raised and trained many Standardbreds with the JM label in the horses' names.

Along with son Michael on the farm and breeding management team, the 800-acre facility has grown to nearly 100 broodmares, including Town Pro, the first pacing filly to win consecutive Breeders Crown championships.

With the farm renamed White Birch many years ago, the Parisi family has bred such outstanding racehorses as the mare Worldly Beauty, winner of more than $1.9 million, and the pacing stallion Island Fantasy, winner of $1.3 million.

White Birch has raced many of the horses it has produced, including Meadowlands Pace winner Hot Lead, who earned $1.3 million, and Woodsie and Buster, winner of $480,000. The farm also serves as a training center for 300 horses, including some of the top racehorses in the sport.
